Orlando, FL –  The Pilipa’a 15’s had an up and down day on the court in their first day of competition at the 43rd Annual AAU National Championship at the Orange County Convention Center on Sunday.  Pilipa’a jumped out to a quick lead in their first match of the day against the Cincinnati Volleyball Academy 15-1 select team. Despite numerous service errors and some first match jitters, Pilipa’a controlled the first game and coasted to a 25-21 first game victory. Games 2 and 3 proved to be more of a challenge.  Pilipa’a’s service game was much improved, however passing woes led to losses in games two and 3 and Cincinnati defeated Pilipa’a 2-1 ( 21-25, 25-21, 15-12). Laurie McGrath led Pilipa’a with 10 kills.

Pilipa’a faced a tough Union 15 IN Brian in their second match of the day. Pilipa’a started strong and played some great volleyball in the first set, however Union 15 to proved  to be more consistent and Pilipa’a lost 0-2 (21-25, 13-25). Tiani Bello led Pilipa’a with 5 kills.

Pilipa’a claimed their third match of the day  by forfeit 2-0 (25-0, 25-0).

Despite the challenges, Pilipa’a advances in the top half of the bracket and will return to the court tomorrow morning at 8am (EST) when they face Kandi Elite.
