The most exciting game of the season ended in the most dramatic fashion possible, A Buzzer Beater!
The UH-Hilo Men's Vulcans (4-6, 4-10) raced out to a great start ahead of the highly touted Hawaii Pacific University Sharks (7-3, 12-4). The Vulcans jumped out to a 10 point lead thanks to the hot shooting of Jordan Russell (who had 25 points at half time). Russell who found his groove early hitting big shots after big shots. The 3rd place Sharks couldn't find a way to stop him in the first half that ended with a 36-29 Vulcan lead.
The second half was a completely different story. The Sharks kept Russell in check holding him to only 8 points. The Sharks defense tightened up eventually tying the game at 57 with about 4 minutes left.
Chauncey Orr, the 6'4″ Senior for the Sharks gave them their first lead 57-59 on a short jumper. But the Vulcans came right back with a 3-pointer from Russell. After 2 made free-throws from Parker Farris and a missed free-throw from the Sharks Jordan Martin, the game was tied at 62 with :10 seconds left. That set-up the most exciting finish of the game.
Senior guard Vandyon Lockett took the ball in the backcourt with :10 seconds left, he swung the ball over to Ryan Reyes who found Farris in the corner with :01 second left as he heaved an 18 footer that rattled in at the buzzer! That was the only FG that Farris would make in this game finishing with 4 points.
