A small single engine Cessna 172 aircraft took off just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, and crashed just minutes after outside of the Hilo National Airport.

There were three adults on board the small aircraft including a male pilot, an adult female and an adult male. All three passengers suffered from injuries, but the injuries and their condition are unknown at this time. Two of the passengers on the aircraft are in critical condition and were transported to the Queen's Medical Center on Oahu, while the third remains at the Hilo Medical Center. At this time it is unknown which two adults are in critical condition.
