A free downloadable app is now available for individuals searching for an accessible parking space in Hawaii. Supported by the Hawaii State Disability and Communication Access Board, the newly created Accessible Parking Locator App shows photos of accessible parking spaces at state parks, airports, parking facilities of government offices and select shopping malls, medical facilities, and familiar local venues.
There are currently 500 individual pictures of accessible parking spaces uploaded in the app database, showing photos of accessible parking throughout the state.
Individuals can participate in this new and exciting venture by downloading the app “dpark.us”. The free app is available at the App Store for Android and other mobile devices. Individuals can also upload new photos using the onscreen instructions to add to the expanding database.
The intent of the Locator App is to assist people with disabilities in finding an accessible parking space that they can use. It is not intended to be an enforcement tool to cite violators.
