Hilo's BJ Penn will be inducted into the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) Hall of Fame. Penn is a two-division champion who has been credited for paving the way for the lightweight division.

Penn was born in Hilo, and at the age of 17 began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During his reign, Penn holds the distinction of being undefeated as a Lightweight for over eight years, spanning a nine-fight unbeaten streak in the division. Dana White, UFC President credits Penn as the man that brought the lightweight divisions into the mainstream of mixed martial arts.
