Hawaii Legislature passed a bill that could make it easier for transgender Hawaii residents to change their gender on their birth certificate. Previously, it was required that Hawaii residents needed to undergo a gender reassignment surgery to change the gender on legal documents.  The recent bill approved by the House and Senate makes it such that a Hawaii resident does not need to make any surgery requirements to change  genders on their legal documents.

If Gov. David Ige passes the bill, Hawaii will be the seventh state to make changes to laws pertaining to gender changes on birth certificates.
