Sunday October 16th marked the 18th Annual Taste of Hilo at the Honpa Hongwanji Sangha Hall. The Taste of Hilo was originally created for two main purposes, to showcase Hilo food businesses and to raise money for Hawaii Community College (HCC). We had the opportunity to experience this culinary showcase, and boy was it worth it!
Along with great food and over 500 in attendance, the event helped raise over $10,000 for HCC Culinary Students. The Taste of a Hilo has raised and donated well over $100,000 over the years to the school.
The event marked the introduction of 3 new dining establishments, Big Island Top Dog, WikiFRESH and the Angry Bull. Big Island Top Dog featured their hot dogs with a sort of honey Bacon mustard that if I could drink it, I would have! WikiFRESH brought the fresh to the party sampling their flavorful chicken bowl with the pesto spread! If you are looking for FRESH and HEALTHY, then this is your place! Angry Bull, the newest establishment at the event, introduced the community to their onolicious pulled pork sandwiches and Angry Burger sliders dripping with their secret sauce that simply made our taste buds dance! Wow, I'm getting hungry just writing this again!
All in all, we tip our hats and our waistlines to the Japanese Chamber of Commerce for yet another successful Taste of Hilo!
